Simpson House has the distinct honor of having served senior adults for more than a century.
Simpson House was founded in 1865 by Mrs. Jane Henry who, with the help of the Bishop and
Mrs. Matthew Simpson, addressed the needs of older persons in the community after the devastating
effects of the Civil War. This unbroken chain of caring still exists today, providing a unique
tradition of commitment, care and value.
From our first location at Tenth and Poplar Streets, we have built, grown and enhanced our
facilities and services to maintain a leadership position in our field. Part of our current
home, known as "Olde Main" was dedicated in 1899. An architectural and engineering masterpiece,
it has been cited as one of Philadelphia's historic treasures and is recognized as an historic
site by the Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church. Simpson House is
the only designated site that is not a Church.
Olde Main has been completely renovated and updated during the past ten years by carefully
blending the richness of our history and tradition with the most modern facilities, conveniences
and technological advances. We offer our continuing commitment to quality and personal services
to the senior community at Simpson House.
